Walmart’s Lunchbox Recipe Ideas

Healthy, Delicious, and Easy Lunchbox Ideas

Happily, packing a healthy lunch doesn’t mean making a five-star meal. Still, whatever you prepare has to pass judgment by one of the world’s toughest food critics: your child. Failing that test could mean your kid will skip or skimp on eating lunch, which provides important fuel for getting through the school day.
  • Practical tips

Follow this simple checklist to help your lunch be a hit, no matter what you pack:

    • Pack lunch the night before and encourage your child to help choose what gets included
    • Have your child create a list of lunch favorites from each of the food groups, and use those items as a starting point
    • Include paper napkins and, when needed, disposable cutlery
    • Pack a reusable kids’ or full-size water bottle with a built-in filter, for great tasting hydration
    • Put a frozen water bottle with lunch to keep food cool when temperatures rise
    • To prevent food poisoning, avoid milk, yogurt, meat or fish in lunches when the weather is hot—or pack them in an insulated cooler with ice or a frozen water bottle
    • Introduce new foods and containers either at home or on the weekends so your child feels comfortable with them before they appear in a packed lunch
    • Wash and dry salad vegetables to prevent sandwiches from getting soggy

    • Pack baby carrots, celery sticks, green, red or yellow pepper wheels, and zucchini or cucumber slices—include low-fat ranch dressing, hummus or salsa for dipping
    • If your kid isn’t wild about vegetables, try sneaking some lettuce into a pinwheel roll or mixing a little spinach or arugula into pasta salad
    • Healthy alternatives to cookies or chips include nuts, dried fruit and unsalted and unsweetened popcorn.
